Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer. The Senior Director, HR Operations provides leadership and strategic direction for Human Resources functions, ensuring alignment with the mission of the institution.  The incumbent is responsible for: implementing HR operational strategies;  ensuring high levels of employee engagement and aligning human capital resources with organizational strategy. Responsibilities include the development of strong partnerships with business leaders and coaching and developing managers and front-line leaders, analyzing business information and leading HR and business project initiatives; proactively engaging in employee relations issues, managing employee development/training activities; and managing programs, policies, and procedures. In addition to supervising HR Business Partners and an HR Office Assistant, the Senior Director, HR Operations also serves as a senior HR Business Partner and supports assigned clients. Some of the major responsibilities for this position will be to support employee relation matters, coaching employees and managers, compliance and training, employee engagement, and support the performance management process.

Duties and Responsibilities

40%   HR Operations: Oversee, facilitate, and deliver high-quality, responsive and partnership-focused services to internal customers. Plan, supervise, and carry out human resources activities including training and development, employee relations, performance management, employee engagement, and internal communications. Implement process improvements.

25%   HR Business Partner Client Services: Supervise work of HR Business Partners and Office Assistant.  Provide HR consulting services to designated client departments.

15%   Human Capital Strategy: Advise senior leadership  and provide guidance and input on department restructures, change initiatives, talent development and the succession planning process that help the Kennedy Center attract, retain, and engage top talent.       

20%   Finance and Systems: Manage the department budget for HR.  Provide HR metrics and reporting for Board and senior leadership.

Key Qualifications



Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Masters degree highly preferred.
At least ten years of human resource management experience required, with strategic, talent management, and/or business development experience highly preferred.
HR certification (SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred.
